Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, H.E. Dr. Badr Abdelatty, hosted H.E. Dr. Tidiane Ouattara, President of the African Space Council, and Dr. Sherif Sedky, CEO of the Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA), in a landmark meeting aimed at strengthening Africa’s space ambitions. The gathering reaffirmed Egypt’s leadership in fostering regional collaboration and leveraging space technology for sustainable development across the continent.

Welcoming AfSA’s President to Egypt, Dr. Abdelatty congratulated Dr. Ouattara on his new leadership role and reiterated Egypt’s unwavering support for the African Space Agency (AfSA), headquartered in Cairo. He underscored the importance of aligning AfSA’s goals with the African Union’s Agenda 2063, a blueprint for transforming Africa into a global powerhouse of the future.
“The African Space Agency is a driving force for innovation, technology, and progress in Africa,” Dr. Abdelatty remarked. “Egypt remains committed to advancing its mission for the benefit of all African nations.”
Dr. Abdelatty highlighted the Egyptian Space Agency’s growing achievements and praised the Ministry’s close coordination with EgSA in shaping global space policies. Notably, Egypt’s leadership as Chair of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) from 2023 to 2024 culminated in a historic consensus report, endorsed by the UN General Assembly. This success reflects Egypt’s proactive role in uniting Africa and advocating for peaceful space exploration on the international stage.
As Africa’s space landscape evolves, Egypt’s collaboration with AfSA signifies a shared vision of harnessing space technologies to drive growth, innovation, and resilience across the continent. This partnership strengthens Africa’s collective voice in global space governance, reinforcing the continent’s ambition to reach new heights of progress and prosperity together.
